Kicking off our auction highlights from this excellent Ewbank's sale, powered by Auction Marketer, is this excellent signed, oil on board piece from Belgian artist Rodolphe Strebelle. Known for teaching at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts as well as his modernist landscapes, this particular piece by Strebelle smashed it's £400 estimate with a £3,200 hammer price.
Second on our featured lots this week is this wonderful signed, oil on canvas, southern French street scene, known as 'Cannes', by Cecil Rochfort D'Oyly-John. D'Oyly-John is classed as one of the most successful and brilliant artists of his time, and a number of his paints were acquired by the Queen Mother (when she was Queen) for the Royal collection. This piece hit a hammer price of £1,600.
Our next featured lot from our auction highlights of Ewbank's latest art sale, powered by Auction Marketer, is this framed, oil on canvas edition of Hector McDonnell's 1978 painting Belfast Street. Known as one of the finest figurative Irish artists of his generation, the realist painter is best known for capturing the mundane and ordinary aspects of daily life with extraordinary quality. This lot more than doubled it's £500 estimate, for a hammer price of £1,600.
Fourth on our featured lots is this unique limited-edition print in colours on aluminium of Craig Alan's 'Starman'. Combining technical skill, creativity and wit, Craig portrays iconic faces, buildings and abstracts through dozens, sometimes hundreds of intricately painted, exquisite figures. Each distinctive piece is created in black and white with a touch of red on some of the more glamorous faces. This iconic interpretation of David Bowie hit a hammer price of £300.
Our final featured lot is this excellent, limited-edition embellished print, artist's proof (number 3 of 5!) of Argentinian artist Fabian Perez's 'Proposal at the Hotel Du Vin'. Perez's paintings, such as this one, have earned him Artist of the Year by the Italian Academy of Artists, as well as the role of official artist at the 2010 Latin Grammy Awards. His original works focusing on tango, flamenco and nightclub life, as well as celebrity portraits, saw him present Pope Francis with his original portrait at the Vatican.
